Laut der NYT gibt es - trotz Massenproteste gegen die Regierung - keinen Anlass, ein Schliessen des Kanals zu befürchten.

Ich möchte mir gar nicht ausmalen, wie dann die Preise für eigentlich alles bei uns, aussehen würden, wenn...
Um mal etwas Spekulatius zu essen: Vielleicht gehört der Kanal bald nicht mehr zu Ägypten, sondern zu Israel oder Saudi-Arabien...oder sie wollen ihn einfach nur privatisieren. Dazu steht im Artikel auch etwas. Ein Kredit des IMF wird zurückgehalten, weil die Regierung den Bedingungen nicht zustimmen wollte...

Egypt bans Israeli ship from docking for repairs in south Suez Canal
Brig. Gen. Mohsin Hamad says the ship lacked certification from the International Maritime Organization that is required for entry to Egyptian ports and the canal.
Egyptian officials have denied permission for an Israeli container ship needing repairs to dock at a port at the southern tip of the Suez Canal.

He said Thursday that a fire broke out on the ship several days ago while it was in waters near Djibouti and that its request to enter the port for repairs was rejected.
Israel's Foreign Ministry said it had no information about the ship.
Egypt is the gatekeeper of one of the world's busiest water corridors and the strategic canal linking the Red Sea to the Mediterranean.
